What is Royal Family KIDS camp?

Royal Family KIDS Camp is a one-week summer camp created especially for children in foster care and those at risk, ages 6–11, serving Sacramento and surrounding counties. As part of a larger network of camps across the country and around the world, we share a simple purpose: to create a place where every child feels safe, seen, and valued.

Many of the children we serve have experienced abuse, neglect, or abandonment. That’s why every part of camp is thoughtfully designed with their needs in mind. Our days are filled with non-competitive, joy-filled activities that allow kids to build confidence, form healthy connections, and experience the freedom of just being a child.

Each camper is paired with a consistent adult counselor, ensuring meaningful connection and individual attention through a 1:2 ratio. 1 counselor to 2 campers. Our volunteers are carefully screened and trained in trauma-informed care, including Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), so they can respond with patience, compassion, and understanding.

From outdoor adventures and creative play to songs, stories, and special events, camp is full of moments that create lasting memories and remind each child of their worth.

As a faith-based organization, we hold our responsibility with great care. We share about Jesus in a gentle and respectful way, always honoring each child’s story, boundaries, and the trust placed in us by families and social workers.

This is the flag we wave—a promise that every child who comes to camp will be seen, safe, and valued.

RFKC uses Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) to interact with the campers in a way that actually sparks new connections and restores broken pathways in the brain. By consistently responding with something as basic as love, hope and security, new pathways are formed in the brain, rewiring it to include the basic perspectives of love, hope and security.

Whether it is the "Everyone's Birthday Party" that celebrates every camper with a cake and gift, our 4th of July "parade" that encourages team spirit and creativity, or our ladies-only tea party and boys-only man camp, every event is carefully curated to deliver the message of love and felt safety to the very vulnerable children we serve.
