What is Royal Family KIDS camp?
Royal Family KIDS Camp is a one-week overnight summer camp especially designed with foster child and other at-risk children in mind. This camp is part of a growing network of camps nationwide. The camping experience is geared for success, recognizing the needs of abused, neglected, and abandoned children. The activities are non-competitive, non-threatening, and fun. We serve kids between the ages of 7-11 within Sacramento and surrounding counties.
Each child is paired with an adult counselor (there's a strict ratio of one adult counselor to every 2 campers). All counselors and staff volunteers who have been carefully screened and trained to work with children in the dependency care system, so you can be assured your foster child is in good hands. Our volunteers receive a minimum of 12 hours of training that is TBRI based.
At camp, your foster child will receive lots of individual attention in a wholesome environment, participating in a variety of fun and educational activities such as singing, activity centers, games, Bible stories, swimming, hikes, sports and special events.
As a faith-based organization, we take our responsibility and relationship with the State very seriously. We offer opportunity and moral-based teachings about God but are very aware that pushing or forcing any religion or religious practices can be a form of abuse in itself. We have very strict rules to protect our campers, volunteers, and the trust that social workers and families have in us.

RFKC uses Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) to interact with the campers in a way that actually sparks new connections and restores broken pathways in the brain. By consistently responding with something as basic as love, hope and security, new pathways are formed in the brain, rewiring it to include the basic perspectives of love, hope and security.
Whether it is the "Everyone's Birthday Party" that celebrates every camper with a cake and gift, our 4th of July "parade" that encourages team spirit and creativity, or our ladies-only tea party and boys-only man camp, every event is carefully curated to deliver the message of love and felt safety to the very vulnerable children we serve.
